Dr. James C. Nelson
BACKGROUND
Dr. Nelson always had the dream of becoming a country doctor; to be able to develop a relationship with his patients that allow them to feel comfortable with him at any time during their lives. Dr. Nelson has lived in the Upper Cumberland for 40 years. He is a devoted father and considers his family to be his greatest achievement. As a veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was trained as a U.S. Navy Corpsman with specialized training as an operating room technician and surgical first assistant. Afterwards, he worked at Cookeville Regional Medical Center as a certified operating room technician/surgical first assistant as he pursued his college education.
EDUCATION
After graduating Tennessee Technological University, he continued to pursue a medical degree from a World Health Organization accredited medical school at the University of Santiago, in Dominican Republic. Upon completion, he was certified by the Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates. His family practice residency program was completed with the University of Arkansas. This program allowed a diversified training in the field of family medicine with emphasis on family medicine, obstetrics, and surgical procedures, preparing Dr. Nelson to practice in a rural community setting. Dr. Nelson currently holds privileges to practice at Cookeville Regional Medical Center and Livingston Regional Hospital. He is well known and has the respect of multiple surgeons in the Upper Cumberland area due to his training and practice background.

Torri Nelson, LMSW
Torri is the Cosmetic Surgery Coordinator. She assists Dr. Nelson with cosmetic surgery consultations, spends time getting to know each and every cosmetic surgery patient and helps tailor their procedure to their specific wishes/needs. You’ll have direct contact with her at anytime to answer any questions you may have regarding your surgery, scheduling, pre and post visits, etc. When you smell coffee brewing at the clinic, you can bet she is near by.

Dr. Nelson been a cosmetic surgeon for the past 10 years, having traveled all over the US, learning from some of the very best cosmetic surgeons so he can provide excellent care and results to his patients.
Larry Epps, CRNA
Larry earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1984 and his Master of Science in Anesthesia in 1987, both from Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. He and his wife Tracy, a nurse practitioner, moved to Cookeville in 1987 following Larry’s graduation. Throughout his 32 years at Cookeville Regional Medical Center Larry provided general anesthesia in all surgical areas including obstetrics, pediatrics, neurology, and cardiovascular. Now semi-retired, Larry works as a 1099 CRNA specializing in cataracts and plastic surgery.
John Westbrook, CRNA
John has been a C.R.N.A for over 30 years with experience in a variety of different settings. He is well known and respected in his profession, in the Upper Cumberland Area. In his free time, you can find him fishing on the lake or on the dance floor! Hilda Grace, RN
Hilda Grace, RN, originally from Rickman, TN, honed her nursing skills at New York Regency before dedicating 34 years to Cookeville Hospital Surgery. Now based in Cookeville, TN, she finds joy in art, her favorite hobby. At Nelson’s, she values the professional, family-like atmosphere that fuels her passion for nursing. Cayla Raines, CNA
Cayla earned her CNA and has over 10 years of nursing experience. She helps check-in patients for surgery, coordinate follow-up appointments, and social media. She is a busy mom of 2 kids, but you will never see Cayla without a smile on her face. Her positive attitude is a favorite amongst clients!

Mary is a seasoned surgical tech and works with us PRN. She assists with keeping instruments prepared for Dr. Nelson and she’s always willing to jump in when needed!

Welcome to our office!
Nestled in the Upper Cumberland of Tennessee, we are proud to offer a clean, relaxing, beautiful, and professional environment for all of our patients. Our friendly staff will greet you when you arrive. Enjoy sitting in our cozy waiting room before heading back to a private space to be taken care of by our nursing staff, Mrs. Torri Nelson, and Dr. Nelson. We strive to deliver the highest level of care in a safe, controlled environment for our patients. Dr. Nelson utilizes the services of a certified registered nurse anesthetist, who administers conscious sedation for the comfort to our patients during their procedures. A nurse is present with you before, during, and after your procedure. A surgical technologist is present during the procedure to assist as needed. Dr. Nelson is not a board-certified plastic surgeon. However, he invites you to read his patients’ testimonials and look at their before and after pictures. Patients are encouraged to come in for a free consultation to talk with Dr. Nelson about their procedure in depth. He strives to make your experience of having an office-based surgical procedure a safe and pleasant one by continually researching and learning the newest evidence based information for the cosmetic and surgical procedures.
